Hi Jim,
I am glad to hear from you. Are you the Hunter descendant that
puts out the newsletter? I received a couple and haven't heard in
some time. Bill Hunter said something about the person had lost
some addresses when he had computer problems. If that is you,
will you please put me back on the mailing list? I appreciate it very
much.
I haven't heard from Bill since he left on his summer trip but assume
he is probably back home by now. He helped me so much with the
Stinnett family and I knew NOTHING about the Hunter connection
until he told me. I did buy Pat Hunter's book and have been doing
some research for Bill on the Hunters that came to Oklahoma. I live
in Eufaula, Oklahoma and grew up in Lincoln County where the
Arrowood family was in the early 1900's. He sent me a list of some
that are in Southeast Oklahoma (Hughes & Coal County) that I
plan to look up.
When I first started researching the Stinnett family I was told that
John (Catherine's husband) died in Sebastian County, Arkansas but
I don't think this is correct. I have the biography of William Stone,
he was married to Elizabeth Stinnett, the daughter of John & Catherine.
In this he stated that the last heard of John, he was living in Missouri
at the age of 90. I think this may be true because he had children
living there and he didn't move to Sevier County, Arkansas with his
son Isham. The William Stone we thought was living in Arkansas was
the wrong one, our William & Elizabeth moved first to Hunt County
Texas where Elizabeth died in 1844 and William Stone moved to
Comanche County, Texas.
I did find my g g grandfather William Stinnett's grave in the Stinnett
Cemetery in Barry County, Missouri. The only way I knew for sure
(his name & dates are only carved in a rock) one of his great grand-
daughters left a journal and in this she stated our great grandfather
George Washington Stinnett was buried next to his father and I
found his grave. The cemetery is very overgrown with briar bushes
and fallen trees. We went down there and cleaned around the Stinnett
graves and I put new markers for William & George Washington.
Several Stinnetts are buried there. John Stinnett's son Henry donated
1.7 acre of land in 1856 for the cemetery but he isn't buried there, he
is buried in the Purdy Cemetery.
Well I didn't mean to write a book but thanks for writing. If you are not
the one who writes the news-letter and know who does, will you please
ask them to put me on the mailing list?

Hi Sandi,
Good to hear from you again and yes, whatever you may have been able to get on the descendants of the second wife of Isham would be a welcome addition to my data. I've written to several of them who are still in the Sevier county area, but none of them have answered.

About a year ago, or maybe a bit longer, I posted the Isham Stinnett family Bible record to the Stinnett mailing list. It should be archived there. If not, let me know and I'll repost it.

Incidentally, I've now determined that Catherine (Hunter) Stinnett died during or shortly after the birth of Isham and John married (2) Polly Carlock at Schuyler county IL.

Let me know if you want to make contact with a descendant of John and Catherine who is like a hound dog when on the trail of a missing ancestor. She's a descendant of George Washington Stinnett.

Again, good to hear from you again and to know that you're still chasing after the epemeral. I see your posting occasionally to the Otero county list and to the Sevier county list so knew you were still active.

Bill Hunter

John married Polly Carlock in 1833, same year Isham was born so evidently Catherine Hunter Stinnett died in or near childbirth of Isham.

Also, in the William Stone biography - husband of Elizabeth Stinnett, John's daughter. It states that John was last heard of in Missouri at the age of 90.
